I am thrilled to announce that I have joined up with the fantastic women of Ladies that UX to start a branch here in the Big Apple. I couldn’t be more delighted to join a group of women fostering compassion, support and encouragement to others within our industry.
You may be wondering why I wanted to start yet another meetup in a city when there are already numerous events every day. The reason is this: I’ve been to a lot of different meetups in the last five months – and they’ve all been great – but there’s something missing. I feel like the sense of community and encouragement from others is lacking. I want to be a part of a community of people who WANT to support each other, who care more about what others are doing and what they can learn from them than showcasing their great startup idea is. [And to be fair, I’ve seen some insanely cool ideas the last few months.]
Ladies that UX NYC is an informal get-together of talented and intelligent women. This isn’t about networking or finding the next great job, although you may find one by speaking to some of the attendees. This isn’t about showcasing your product. This is about building relationships, both professional and personal, with other women in the UX community and finding the support and encouragement you need over dinner and drinks.
If you’re interested in becoming a part of this, please let me know by reaching out on Twitter. Follow @LadiesThatUXNYC to find out about our first event. I am really looking forward to meeting all of you!
